2011 Prize and Awards Winners

The Japan Wood Research Society Prize

The Japan Wood Research Society Prize was awarded to Shingo KAWAI, Faculty of Agriculture, Shizuoka University, for his work “Biosynthesis and biodegradation of tree secondary metabolites”, and to Haruo KAWAMOTO, Graduate School of Energy Science, Kyoto University, for his work “Reaction mechanisms of wood pyrolysis”.

The Japan Wood Research Society Progress Award

The Japan Wood Research Society Progress Award was received by Ichiro KAMEI, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Miyazaki, for his work “Studies on degradation and metabolism of persistent organic pollutants by wood-rotting fungi” and by Yoichi KOJIMA, Faculty of Agriculture, Shizuoka University, for his work “Evaluation of wood-based panel durability using weathering intensity”.

The Japan Wood Research Society Regional Scientific Promotion Award

The Japan Wood Research Society Regional Scientific Promotion Award was received by Yutaka IIMURA, Miyazaki Prefectural Wood Utilization Research Center, for his work “Development of technologies to utilize sugi timber produced in South Kyushu for building and civil engineering purposes”, and by Kazuto SEKI, Forest Products Research Institute, Forest Research Department, Hokkaido Research Organization, for his work “Researches on the chemical utilization of forest biomass in Hokkaido and their scientific and technical promotion in the regional industries”.

The Japan Wood Research Society Technology Award

The Japan Wood Research Society Technology Award was received by Tatsuro OHIRA, Naoyuki MATSUI, Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute, and Toshihiko KANEKO, Japan Aroma Laboratory, for their work “Development of purifying agents for air pollutants by appliance of woody essential oils”.

The Japan Wood Research Society Best Paper Award

The Japan Wood Research Society Best Paper Award was received by Kentaro MISHIMA, Taiichi IKI, Yuichiro HIRAOKA, Naoko MIYAMOTO, Atsushi WATANABE, Forest Tree Breeding Center, Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute, for their work “The evaluation of wood properties of standing trees in sugi (Cryptomeria japonica) plus tree clones selected in kanto breeding region” Mokuzai Gakkaishi, Vol. 57, No. 5, and by Yoichi KOJIMA, Tomoya SHIMODA, Shigehiko SUZUKI, Faculty of Agriculture, Shizuoka University, for their work “Evaluation of the weathering intensity of wood-based panels under outdoor exposure” Journal of Wood Science, Vol. 57, No. 5.

Mokuzai Gakkaishi (Journal of the Japan Wood Research Society)

Mokuzai Gakkaishi is another official journal of the Japan Wood Research Society. This journal publishes original articles, notes, review articles, and announcements from the Society in Japanese but with English abstracts, tables, and figure captions for original reports.
